Two Coláiste Oiriall Transition Year students, Aisling Ní Fhearghais and Charlotte Ní Giolla Chomhail, accompanied by their Science teacher, Múinteoir Blaithin Ní Mhathúna are taking part in the BT Young Scientist competition in the RDS this week.

 

 Coláiste Oiriall Under 19 girls’ basketball team defeated Rathmore Grammar School, Belfast in Basketball Irelands National “B” league competition. This win secures a spot for the Colaiste Oiriall team in the All Ireland Play Off series which will be held on the 1st Feb in Portlaoise. 

The following are the results of this year’s Peann agus Pár Literary Competition held in Coláiste Oiriall after Halloween. The results were announced during Tionól Scoile (School Assembly) on Thursday. The adjudicators complimented the entrants in all sections, believing the standard to be very high.

Coláiste Oiriall will meet Coláiste Mhuire Gan Smál, Blarney in the Division B Under-16 Girls’ Basketball All-Ireland League semi-final during the first week of March at a venue yet to be decided after winning all their three matches convincingly in the Play-Off tournament in the

Coláiste Oiriall provided the winners in both categories in the Gael-Linn Irish language ‘Abair’ Public Speaking competition last Thursday. Lusaí Ní Shiacais and Caoimhín Ó Ceallaigh were joint winners in the junior section talking about negative impact of social media and the future of the Irish language respectively

The boys’ 1st and 2nd Year basketball teams in Coláiste Oiriall have virtually an unblemished record in this year’S Basketball Ireland North Eastern league. The first year team have been successful in all their matches and have defeated Largy College, Clones, Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer, St. Claire’s Ballyjamesduff, Collegiate School, Monaghan and Castleblayney.

Thug daltaí Ceimice 5ú bliana Choláiste Oiriall cuairt ar Ioad Cóireála Uisce i dTeach na dTrí Mhíle i gcuideachta a múinteora, Jane Nic Pháidín. Marie Louise Nic Aodha, a first year pupil in Coláiste Oiriall, recently qualified for a place on the Irish Pony Club Mounted Games Team as a result of her performance on her pony Molly last month. She will represent Ireland at the Royal Bath and West Show in England in May. Rinne sí ionadaíocht ar shon na hÉireann i gCraobhacha na hEorpa faoi 12 anuraidh.

 The Coláiste Oiriall under 16 Girls Basketball team (in their new gear), who were defeated by Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál, Blarney, Co. Cork in Tallaght on Monday in the All-Ireland B semi-final of the Basketball Ireland Schools Cup competition.

Rinne Coláiste Oiriall scothghnothaí ag rásaíocht trastíre ETB an Chontae i mBaile na Lorgan Deardaoin seo chuaigh thart. Bhuaigh Anann Ó Conchúir bonn óir, bhuaigh Helen Nic an Fhailigh agus Celine Ní Fhailigh boinn airgid agus bhuaigh Conor Ó Dughaill, Leon Ó Moalagin Mac Cába agus Hannah Ní Sceacháin boinn cré-umha, Bhuaigh foireann mionúir na mbuachaillí an bonn airgid agus foireann mionúir na gcailíní an bonn óir.

They were accompanied by Múinteoir Faela Uí Dhomhnaill, Comhordaitheoir Idirbhliana and by Múinteoir Cathal Mac Tiarnáin.

 Coláiste Oiriall has launched its first Spelling Bee which will take place in the Garage Theatre on Monday, 31st March at 1.30 pm. Five teams of three spellers on each team, drawn from the 1st Year, 2nd Year and 3rd Year students, will take part in the contest. The event is adapted from the successful Easons Spelling Bee concept at primary school level in association with the Ryan Tubridy Radio 1 show.

Team Tír na nÓg with Dylan Mac Gabhann, Tara Nic Giolla Seanáin and Katie Ní Chléire, are the inaugural champions of the Coláiste Oiriall Spelling Bee with a final team score of 114 points. The final was held in the Garage Theatre last Monday. The second placed team was Tuatha De Danann with Laura Ní Dhroma, Tiarnán Ó Roideáin and Dylan Ó Dufaigh and they accumulated a final score of 82 points.
