Coláiste Oiriall 5-6 Gairmscoil Chú Uladh 3-10

Coláiste Oiriall defeat Gairmscoil Chú Uladh in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools GAA U-19 Ward Cup final in Drumragh, Co Tyrone.

The Oiriall boys trailed 2-3 to 2-1 against the team from Béal an Átha Mhóir in Gaeltacht Láir Thír Chonaill at half-time but managed to come out on top by two points following an exciting second half.

Fuair Fiachra Ó Roideáin cúl den scoth luath sa chluiche, scór a thug uchtach dóibh, agus fuair Maitiú Ó Cearbhalláin 1-1, cúl ó chic píonóis agus pointe ó chic saor .B’é an scór ag leathama GSCU 2-3 Coláiste.Oiriall 2-1. Sa dara leath, fuair Cillian Haicéad cúl, Jeaic Ó Cearbhalláin 0-2, Ciarán Ó Dughaill dhá chúl, Éanna Ó hAilín dhá phointe agus Ethan MacGafraidh pointe amháin. B’é pointe Mhic Gafraidh scór an chluiche.

Fiachra Ó Roideáin’s perfectly executed goal was an appropriate response to GS Chú Uladh’s opening goal shortly after the throw-up. Maitiú Ó Cearbhallín scored a goal from a penalty and a point and when his brother, Jeaic, who was returning from an injury, was introduced on 25 minutes, he not only had a massive influence on the play but scored two points of his own.

Cillian Haicéad scored a goal and captain, Ciarán Ó Dughaill scored two goals after the latter was moved to the full-forward line late in the game. Niall Ó Miacháin successfully manmarked GS Chú Uladh’s star forward in the second half and gave a potential Man of the Match performance as a result. Eanna Ó hAilín scored two points and Ethan MacGafraidh’s point must surely have been the score of the match.

Bhí Niall Ó Miacháin ag imirt ar Luke MagFhloinn, iarchaiftín mionúir Dhún na nGall agus ball de fhoireann faoi 20 Dhún na nGall a bhuaigh an Léig le gairid. B’é Niall Laoch na hImeartha dúinn as an dóigh a mharcáil sé MagFhloinn chomh teannta sin sad arna leath.
Tháinig Jeaic Ó Cearbhalláin, ar an pháirc i ndiaidh 25 bomaite tar éis drochghortú roinnt seachtainí ó shin. Bhí an-tionchar aige ar an chluiche agus ghnóthaigh sé 0-2 dá chuid féin fosta.

Bhí cluiche den scoth ag Reuben Ó Sirideáin mar lánchúlaí. Bhog Ciarán Ó Dughaill chuig an ról mar lán thosaí mall go maith sa dara leath agus fuair sé dhá chúl. Bobby MacCamhaoil, the county star who scored the winning point for Monaghan’s U17 recently against Armagh, also had a big game as had Reuben Ó Sirideáin and defenders, Killian Ó Fearchair, Alan Ó Marcaigh agus Andrew Ó Coileáin.

Donegal danger men

Luke MagFhloinn last year's Donegal minor captain and a member of the U-20 panel who won the Leo Murphy Cup the previous Saturday, scored 1-7. Odhran Ó Conchúir hit 2-1, with Sean Mac an Bhaird hitting a point. Thomas Crosáin and Jack MacFhloinn put in good performances for Gairmscoil Chú Uladh

Bhí cluiche ar dóigh ag Bobby MacCathmaoil i lár na páirce, agus é go fóill faoi 16, agus bhuaigh sé an chuid is mó de na ciceanna amach. Tháinig Fionán Ó Gallchóir isteach in áit Seán Ó Casaide ag leathama agus d’oibrigh sé go dian dícheallach.

While the Glenfin club dominated the Gairmscoil Chú Uladh team with fifteen of twenty of the panel, the following twelve clubs were represented on the Coláiste Oiriall panel: Monaghan Harps, Rockcorry, Scotstown, Blackhill, Carrickmacross, Clontibret, Corduff, Aughnamullen, Emyvale, Donaghmoyne, Killanny and Éire Óg.

D’oibrigh na cosantóirí go dian dícheallach ó thús go deireadh, ina measc, Killian Ó Fearchair, Alan Ó Marcaigh agus Andrew Ó Coileáin – fear eile a bhí ag iompar gortú
Tháinig Aodán Ó Dughaill ar an pháirc in áit Éanna Ó hAailín agus cúpla bomaite fágtha sa chluiche. Bhí ciceanna amach maithe, cruinne ag Jason Ó Braonáin Alastair agus cluiche maith aige ar an iomlán.

Tuilleadh cúl!

GS Chú Uladh was leading by two points at half-time 2-01 to 2-03. Oiriall hadn’t scored for the final 12 minutes of the half. The teams were equal with 2-03 a piece after 35 minutes and again on 42 minutes with both teams adding a point. Coláiste Oiriall got three further goals in the 47th, 55th and 58th minutes. Team Manager, Seán MacThaidhg ,was delighted with the win and praised the lads for their commitment throughout the season. The team wish to record their gratitude to an Múinteoir Seán for all his work during the campaign and also Dessie Ó Mocháin, Niall Ó Fríl and Diarmuid MacCionna for their support.

B’é an scór deiridh ná Coláiste Oiriall 5-6 Gairmscoil Chú Uladh 3-10 agus dhá phointe le sparáil againn. D’aimsigh GSCU cúl chor a bheith leis an chic deireanach den chluiche i ndiaidh míthuisceana idir cosantóirí Oiriall.

D’imir gasúraí faoi-19 Oiriall cúig chluiche roimh an Chraobh. Bhuaigh siad an trí chluiche grúpa go furasta in éadan Choláiste Ard Feá, Muineachán, Coláiste Breifne, an Cabhán agus Naomh Madhóg, Bawnboy. Bhuail siad De La Salle, Dún Phádraig sa chluiche ceathrú ceannais agus bhuail siad Scoil Ghramadaí Lumen Christi sa chluiche leathcheannais.

The victory was tinged with sadness as Maitiú Mac Thoirealaigh and Ógie Ó Dufaigh were mentioned in the dressing room and referenced in the captain’s victory speech while the team wore commemorative wristbands, an initiative undertaken by the players themselves. Maitiú would have probably started at full-forward while Ógie played in Oiriall’s final match shortly before Covid-19 closed the schools in early 2020 against De La Salle, Downpatrick. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar anamnacha na beirte acu.
