Gold Medal
Congratulations to Faolán Ó Cathmhaoil who has received a Gold Medal in the Young Economist of the Year 2020 sponsored by the Central Bank. The judges had a tough job this year due to the high standard of projects submitted. They were very impressed with the wide variety of topics, the level of research, economic analysis and application of economic concepts, the Sustainable Development Goals and the awareness of how economic forces affect our everyday lives. Faolán’s entry was entitled ‘The Economic Sustainability of Index-Funds for Equity Markets’.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions the National Award Celebration Day will be held online next weeks. Participants, friends and teachers are welcome to join in virtually.
Gold, silver and bronze medals have been awarded. Entries receiving a Gold Medal are shortlisted for eligibility for possible further placings in PDST/IGEES, CBI and IGEES special interest awards. The Gold medal and Certificate of Participation will be sent to Coláiste Oiriall in September.
The Central Bank Award overall winner will be announced at the virtual ceremony. The winner will receive a specially designed medal and a bursary of €500 and will also be given a two-week work placement with the Central Bank of Ireland. The work placement will be arranged over the summer of 2020 at a time to be mutually agreed between the winner and the Central Bank – subject to COVID-19 restrictions.
