Is í Amy Ní Dhaighre Innealtóir Óg na Bliana 2020

Is í Amy Ní Dhaighre Innealtóir: Barry Convey, chairperson of the ETTA (Engineering Technology Teachers’ Association) and Summerhill College, Sligo presented

... the Young Engineer of the Year 2020 award to former Coláiste Oiriall student, Amy Ní Dhaighre in the school. The event was also attended by Daryl O’Brien, vice-chairperson of Area 6 (Monaghan, Louth, Meath and Cavan).

Two entries are initially selected from each of the twelve ETTA regions and go forward to the national final. Monaghan, along with Meath, Cavan and Louth form Region 6. This is the most prestigious competition in the technology subjects’ area and the accolade is much sought after. Everybody in Coláiste Oiriall is delighted for Amy. She is currently studying Biomedical Engineering in UCD.

Tá lúchair ar gach duine i gColáiste Oiriall gur bhuaigh iarscoláire, Amy Ní Dhaighre, an gradam iomráiteach ‘Innealtóir Óg na Bliana’ ag an deireadh seachtaine. Is iad Cumann na Múinteoirí Teicneolaíochta Innealtóireachta (ETTA) a eagraíonn an comórtas agus a bhronnann an duais. Bhí cóngarach go leor do fiche tionscnamh Ardteiste istigh ar an chomórtas náisiúnta amach as uasmhéid de 24 – dhá cheann as gach ceann den 12 reigiún.

This year’s final was adjudicated by teachers, former teachers and inspectors and the results were announced online from the Mullingar Park Hotel. Usually the adjudication takes place at the annual conference, but this was not possible this year due to public health restrictions.

The brief for the 2020 Leaving Certificate examination was to design a model of a remote control vehicle to incorporate a drive-train using caterpillar track technology to ride over rough terrain, having an arm, which can transverse the working areas to locate, raise and lower an object and to include an operator’s control and switching panel which might be tethered to the vehicle.
