Tara Ní Bhroin is Coláiste Oiriall TY Student of the Year. She received her award at a ceremony in the school last Wednesday while Dervla Ní Threasaigh received the Spirit of Transition Year award at the same ceremony.

All students received their modules’ certificates and their overall assessment certificate at pass, merit or distinction level. Aoibheann Ní Thréinir delivered a superb oration on behalf of the students reviewing the year.

The following awards were also presented: Interviewee of the Year: Aisling Ní Ghallchóir; Information Technologist of the Year: Daniel Ó Raghallaigh; Entrepreneur of the Year: Tara Ní Bhroin; Sports Assistant of the Year: Caoimhe Nic an Bhaird; Sports Star of the Year: Leon Ó Maolagáin Mac Cába; Best Portfolio: Laura Ní Dhroma; Best Reflection: Yvonne Nic Giolla Rua: Musician of the Year: Aoibheann Ní Thréinir: Most Noticeable Self-Development: Clóda Ní Dhufaigh

In his address Brendan Ó Dufaigh, Príomhoide, said that schools are frequently criticised as having a too exam-focussed, learning-by-rote approach but that TY offers a welcome interlude. The past year in TY Coláiste Oiriall has allowed students to mature and has encouraged them to become more self-directed learners. Our pictorial coverage includes nominees and overall winners in all categories. Muinteoir Faela Mhic Dhomhnaill, TY Co-ordinator spoke to the student body very passionately about their future, the endless possibilities and their abundance of talents and that Transition Year was a year of reflection to discover who am I and where am I going.
