Grainne Duffy, Paul Sherry and Coláiste Oiriall musicians during an impromptu session which was the culmination of the day’s workshops in vocals and string instruments.
Singer, songwriter and guitarist, Grainne Duffy and her husband Paul Sherry visited Coláiste Oiriall Transition Year students on Monday to undertake workshops for students involved in music. Grainne took small groups of students for vocals while Paul took groups in string instruments. The students really appreciated the opportunity to learn from one of Ireland’s premier soul and blues musicians.
Reáchtáil Coláiste Oiriall na ceardlanna seo mar chuid dá gclár ealaíona sa scoil. Is ceoltóir mór le rá í Grainne Duffy go náisiúnta agus go hidirnáisiúnta agus bhí na scoláirí iontach buíoch dí as teacht isteach agus dul i mbun na gceardlann. Eagraíodh iad in Amharclann an Gharáiste ar iarratas Gráinne, áit a raibh an t-atmaisféar cuí ann. Bhain na scoláirí an-sult go deo as an lá a chaitheamh i gcuideachta ceoltóir clúiteach agus ag foghlaim uaithi.
Originally from Doohamlet, Grainne has played in Australia, Canada and throughout Europe including the acoustic stage at Glastonbury for three nights in 2008. She has released a number of albums and her latest single has just been released this week. The students marvelled at Grainne’s talents and she certainly inspired them to continue their music journey.
