Mary Nuala Nic Sceacháin and Oisin Ó Broin, two Coláiste Oiriall students, travelled to the National Library in Dublin to take part in the All-Ireland semi-final of the Poetry Aloud competition in the junior and senior categories respectively.

Mary Nuala’s prescribed poem in the Junior Category was To a Child Dancing in the Wind by William Butler Yeats while Oisin’s prescribed poem in the senior category was The Angel of History by Theo Dorgan. Both students also spoke a poem chosen from the prescribed anthologies

Judges marked each contestant according physical presence, engaging with the audience, voice and articulation, use of appropriate pacing, understanding and convey the meaning to the audience, interpretation and overall performance.

Dúirt an Mary Nuala agus Oisin a gcuid dánta go han soiléir le cur i láthair láidir agus le húsáid mhaith gutha ach fós féin níor éirigh leo dul ar aghaidh go dtí Craobh na hÉireann ach déanann muid comhghairdeas leo mar sin féin.
