Coláiste Oiriall’s Charlotte wins Best Junior Certificate Irish Essay accolade
Many congratulations to Charlotte Nic Giolla Chomhaill who has received recognition from the Minister of Education for the essay she wrote in her Junior Certificate Irish paper one last year. Charlotte was one of only four students who received a certificate personally signed by the outgoing Minister for Education, Ruairí Quinn T.D. The other three students were from Navan, Dungarvan and an Spidéal, Co. na Gaillimhe.

The following sixteen 4th Year students have just been appointed as cinnirí (prefects) in Coláiste Oiriall: Niamh Ní Chiaráin, Hannah Nic Sceacháin, Katie Ní Chléire, Cathal de Paor, Celine Ní Fhailigh, Laura Ní hUallacháin, Emma Ní Chléirchín, Shane Ó Cinnéide, Éadaoin Ní Labhraí, Deirdre Nic Airt, Tara Ní Chianáin, Caolán Ó Máirtín, Sarah Nic Cionna, Ailíse Nic an Fhailigh, Inza Nic Canna and Seán Ó Ruanaí.
Torthaí an Teastais Shóisearaigh ar fheabhas i gColáiste Oiriall.
Déanann muid comhghairdeas ó chroí le daltaí Choláiste Oiriall a fuair a gcuid torthaí Teastais Shoisearaigh. Bhí siad ar fheabhas ar fad. 50 students or 70% of those who sat the examination in Coláiste Oiriall received As at Higher Level Irish and again 50 students or 70% did Higher level Maths of which 78% received an A, B or C. 86 % or 61 students did Higher level English of which all students received an A, B or C with the exception of two students.
Comórtas Gearrscéalta an RTE Guide bainte ag Aoibhín
Aoibhín Nic Gabhann, a Transition Year student in Coláiste Oiriall, has won the winning prize in the 11-14 years old category of the prestigious RTE Guide-Puffin Ireland Short Story competition. Her story entitled ‘Minute of Decay’ was published in the edition of the RTE Guide of 14-20 June. She won a gift set of books from Puffin. Aoibhín’s photograph appeared in the magazine that same week.

Daltaí Choláiste Oiriall ag amharc ar Leabhar Cheanannais
Coláiste Oiriall senior Art students, accompanied by their teacher, Múinteoir Faela Mhic Dhomhnaill, visited the Old Library in Trinity College on Tuesday to view the famous Book of Kells. The Book of Kells is celebrated for its lavish decoration. The manuscript contains the four Gospels in Latin and is written on vellum.

Coláiste Oiriall fundraising campaign to buy a 34 seater bus is in full swing and the Parents’ Association and the school are delighted with the support of parents so far. We are asking all remaining families to pay a one off subscription towards the cost of this bigger bus.

Three Former Coláiste Oiriall Students are Maynooth University Entrance Scholars
Three former Coláiste Oiriall students, Andriú Mac Siacais, Aimée Ní Ghallchóir and Caoimhe Ní Ghallchóir, received Entrance Scholarships at a function in Maynooth University on Monday night. The scholarship is awarded to students admitted with 525 points or more and the value of the award is €1,000.

Coláiste Oirall under 16 and under 19 Girls Basketball teams in Regional Finals
Coláiste Oiriall Girls under 16 basketball team who will play in the Basketball Ireland North East Regional Final on 9th, 10th or 11th December against Scoil Mhuire, Longford after victories over St. Vincent’s, Dundalk and Our Lady’s, Castleblayney. €1,300 cruinnithe ag daltaí Rang Ruairí do MS READaTHON
Twenty two first year students in Coláiste Oiriall have raised the massive sum of €1,300 under the supervision of their English teacher, Múinteoir Aoife Nic Liam. Students who deserve special mention for substantial sums collected are Hannah Nic Eindrí, Eoghan Ó Cianáin, Doireann Ní Cheallaigh, Caoileann de Blaca, Ava Ní Mhaoildearg, Dylan Ó Ceallaigh, Niamh Ní Mhaolábhail.
A mention also to the six students in rang Roisin who collected €200 with the help of their teacher, Múinteoir Brian de Grannt.
Coláiste Oirall under 19 Girls Basketball team in All-Ireland Cup semi-final
Coláiste Oiriall Girls under 19 Girls B basketball team defeated Loreto on Stephen’s Green by 42 points to 36 last Thursday. Oiriall was losing by 10 points to two in the first quarter due to poor free throw line shooting. They improved dramatically as the match evolved with great personal displays by Morgan Nic Cionna and Ellen Ní Bhriain.
